Qualitative mask fit testing is used to determine whether a face mask is the right fit for you. Mask and respirator fit testing is required under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), which states that “An employer who provides a worker with a respirator shall provide training and instruction to the worker in the care and use of the respirator before the worker first uses the respirator.”
A mask fitting is required for all workers using any of the following types of respirators in the workplace as part of their employer’s respiratory protection program:
- Filtering masks such as N95 or KN95 masks
- Half-face respirators
- Full-face respirators
- SCBA’s
